Bäck-jury (Sweden)

The last months every school year our school has a reading project together with the library in town. The librarians choose 12 books and our pupils read and judge them. In June we count the points every book has got and celebrate the 5 best books. The pupils who have left a vote can win a book. It’s a very popular project.

This year we wanted to integrate some motion in this project, so we decided to walk through the books. Every class transformed the classroom to a book and last Friday we had our book walk. All the pupils were very engaged in the reading and transforming.

Combinations of ten, doubles and math stories (Finland)

Among the most important basic things in math are the combinations of ten and the doubles. Year 1 practised these skills this time with balls. They also learned to tell math stories. Each story included both addition and subtraction. One told the story and the other counted it by using twenty frames and red and yellow counters.
